The company was started in 1988 as the Fort Lee Specialty Shop inside the Fort Lee Post Exchange Mall. The Company still operates the specialty shop at Fort Lee, Virginia. In 1994, we opened our second location in Colonial Heights just outside Fort Lee. Shortly after opening our second location we moved into a much larger building located on the Boulevard (US Route 1) in Colonial Heights.
The Awards & Frame company is perhaps one of the most unique "Trophy" shops in the world. Why is that? The answer is simple, Diversity. In fact, several leading trade magazines have done articles on our shop recognizing the diversity we have achieved in our industry.
For over 20 years we have dedicated ourselves to staying ahead of the curve though the implementation of technology. We have machinery and equipment that most shops simply do not have which gives us the ability to create products like no other. In a recent study by the leading awards and engraving trade association the typical "trophy" shop has one standard engraver and possibly a laser engraver in which they can engrave glass, acrylic, crystal, wood and plastic. Some shops may also have a sublimation system which allows them to imprint full color into awards and textiles. That's about it.
Our equipment list includes several computerized engraving systems, four laser engravers, two sublimation systems, a full screen printing department, a direct to garment printer, a vinyl printer / cutter, full picture framing department with a computerized mat cutter, a full wood working shop, sand blasting equipment, a pad printer and many other items to help make the most unique awards available.
How do we do all of this? Well, it takes plenty of room and many talented people. Our shop is approx. 6,000 square feet of retail and production space with an additional 1500 sq ft. wood working shop. While the average "trophy" shop is 1200 sq. feet you can see how we have the advantage and ability to create more unique products than just about any other shop out there.
